I’ve always loved communicating clearly with the written word.
I edited my first manuscript in high school. I helped my grandmother prepare her memoir for our extended family, and my love of of writing and editing blossomed from there.
I attended Brigham Young University, where I studied English literature with a minor in editing. I specialized in magazine editing, but I received instruction for all publication media. While at university, I worked both at the BYU Writing Center and an on-campus publication house. There I wrote magazine blurbs and edited book manuscripts, academic journal articles, and magazine articles.
After graduation, I continued working at writing centers at Washington State University and Texas A&M University. At A&M, I helped graduate students prepare journal articles and their theses and dissertations for defense and publication. I was exposed to diverse fields of study and learned that I even if I’m not an expert in biochemical engineering (or other technical fields), I can still edit and make a document stronger and clearer.
Later I worked for Shea Writing and Training Solutions, where I wrote and edited internal documents, instruction manuals, and global process documents for international oil and gas companies.
Since college, I have been freelance writing and editing and have learned that I enjoy the diversity, the flexibility, and the potential for growth that freelancing gives me. In my freelance work, I’ve written copy for marketing campaigns, blog posts, and magazine articles. I’ve also freelance edited many books for independent publishers and a publishing house.
No matter the topic, the genre, the medium, the writing stage you’re in, or the length of a project, I can help you say what you need to say. Let’s work together!
